Dirk Notheis Short Bio
Dirk Notheis, the CEO of Morgan Stanley AG, the German subsidiary of leading Wallstreet firm Morgan Stanley, enjoys the arts of his native Germany. He visits the local galleries to view their latest exhibitions of pop art, expressionist art or any form of modern art. He also frequents the great opera halls and as often as possible attends classical music events. While he enjoys a wide range of composers, his favorites can be anyone from Richard Wagner or Mozart to Giaccino Rossini. He takes an active part in promoting the arts through his membership in the Freundeskreis of the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and is a board member in that patron association, which happens to be the only opera house in Germany, located in Baden-Baden that is financed entirely by private funds.
Early Beginnings
Dirk Notheis was born in Ettlingen Germany, located in the province of Baden, in 1968. While he may have been expected to follow in the footsteps of his father and go into medicine, Dirk Notheis found his niche in the study of business administration, philosophy and political science. He studied for an MBA in these subjects at the University of Mannheim and then went on to earn a PhD from the University of Stuttgart, specializing in the economic theory of contributions.
While engaging in politics, he became connected through his membership in the Junge Union Baden-Württemberg, which is connected to the Christian Democratic Party. He served in several positions as a party volunteer and became finally the states chairman of the organization. His hearth was allways with the fight for a clean and sustainable environment. At very early age he developed an environmental campaign in his home region which turned out to become a great success and included lectures, numerous regional activities and even a booklet describing the values and goals of the campaign that which was distributed in every area household.
For two years, beginning in 1992, Dirk Notheis assisted Dr. Erwin Vetter, a minister of state, as speech writer and with research projects. Dr. Vetter was a member of the Land tag and minister of the state at Baden-Wurttemberg and functioned in many respects as his political mentor.
Dirk Notheis worked for the SGZ-Bank in Frankfurt/Main for five years with the position of senior director respsible for corporate finance. He left the SGZ-Bank in 1999 to take a job at Morgan Stanley. At that time he was responsible for the leisure and lodging industry, the public and infrastructure sector and the transportation industry in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
In 2006 Dirk Notheis became a member of the Management Board at Morgan Stanley AG. He contributes to the banks wide range of services ranging from the execution of advisory and capital markets, private wealth management and sales and trading
Current Position
In 2009 Dirk Notheis, at the age of 40, was named Chief Executive Officer of the Morgan Stanley Bank for Germany and Austria. As a leader in the field of investment banking, he advises the bank’s clients on mergers and acquisitions, helping them to find their special niche in the market. He provides valuable advice in reducing the level of risk in the client’s balance sheet, while ensuring their continuing growth with new products and solutions.
